THE FOREST OF IERE Tireswing Theatre Workshops for New Musical
Book & Lyrics by Tami
Zimmerman Henry |
|
Tireswing Theatre has become known for presenting only original works built from
folk literature from around the world. This year we are taking that one step
further and creating an entirely new musical using folk lore from the islands of
Trinidad and Tobago.
Another first for Tireswing and the world is that this musical will have a score created for steel drum band! Aldwin Butler, originally from Trinidad, and his business partner Philip Russell, come to Trinidad to develop an uninhabited forest on the island with a resort. Aldwin had heard the stories as a boy of Papa Bois, protector of the woods, and Mama De L’eau, protector of the waters, but he never put much stock in their existence. Little does he know that the Forest of Iere is filled with creatures determined to protect it. The Forest of Iere takes a look at how the human world clashes with the spiritual world when it comes to how our rapidly depleting resources are being used… and abused. |
