THE SOUL CAGES
ADAPTED AND DIRECTED BY TAMI HENRY FROM THE TALE BY THOMAS CROFTON CROKER
For many generations the Doherty family has had an unusual friendship with those who live in the sea--namely, the Merrow (Merfolk). The Soul Cages follows the story of Jack Doherty as he befriends a merrow named Coomara and finds their friendship at odds when he decides to free the souls of drowned sailors. “(Director Tami) Henry’s able direction keeps the production lively and fluid…”

“…the fisherman and his wife (MacArthur Stein and Susan Shimer) are well-drawn characters with a sweet, believable relationship.”

“Tireswing Theatre deserves much credit for looking beyond the well-worn stories of Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm to bring a whimsical Irish folk tale to the stage.”

“Tami Zimmerman Henry, adaptor and director, draws some amusing parallels between life and prejudices in the fisherman’s hut on the rocky shore and in the palace of the deep.”
